A book for children aged 5 -7 years learning to read. It tells the story of Chris and Ken the footplate men, driving and firing a steam train and who lost the coal hammer, a vital piece of footplate equipment used to break up large pieces of coal.
The book is written in rhyming couplets which accompany bright bold pictures.
It is a story for Grandads to read to their grandchildren and to tell them about the time when they themselves were young, about the sights and sounds of their childhood.
Along with Ken Issitt we gave talks to a variety of groups in Leicestershire, WI's, U3A, local history groups, steam enthusiasts etc under the name of Chris and Ken the Railway Men.
This is the first book in the Chris and Ken series for grandads to read to their
grandchildren, and tells the story of a lost coal hammer and Chris and Ken's efforts to find it!
